We are pleased to report an income of £1,358.03 for the first six months of 2018 from our collection boxes located throughout the community in our operational area – from Darwen in the North to Wigan in the West, Broughton in the East and Manchester Airport to the South.

Unfortunately, this figure is over £1,000 less than donated for the same time scale in 2017, so we are very eager to increase the number of places hosting our charity boxes, which are checked and emptied regularly by our volunteer team members. We rely very much on the regular income received from this source to support the maintenance of our vehicles, boats and equipment so that our totally voluntary search and rescue service can continue.

Please email: box@boltonmrt.org.uk if you would be willing to host one of our charity boxes. We take this opportunity to express huge thanks to all our existing sites for their continued and valued support and to thank the generous members of the public who drop their coins – and notes – into our boxes.

With the road closed between The Miller & Carter and the Cricket Club, the main stalls took place this year on the closed road near Greenmount Cricket Club. All the attractions were attracting many young (and not so young!) villagers.

Our good friends and supporters, Neil & Helen Grundy known as the Holcombe Duo, were there mingling with the villagers and playing their Alphorns for donations to our Team.

Thanks to the generosity of the public attending the event, we received donations totalling £83.23 towards our work.

A new secretary was also elected; Paul Brain. Paul takes over the role from Gillian Gregory who has been secretary for the past 12 years. Gillian has worked tirelessly, often behind the scenes, ensuring correspondence is kept up to date and taking minutes of meetings. She has been a member of the support group for a great many years working selflessly to help raise funds, raise the profile of the work of the team and provide very welcome refreshments at team training events and call outs. Gillian was presented with a bouquet of flowers in recognition and thanks for all her hard work.

John Ryan and Dave Conn both stepped up into new roles, namely Equipment Officer (Medical) and Equipment Officer (Comms and Lighting) respectively.

Steve James was also elected to be one of the 5 Assistant Team Leaders

Bolton Mountain Rescue Team are delighted to be able to welcome Simon Yates; the explorer, mountaineer and author, to tell tales of his escapades in some of the remotest regions on the planet. Simon has had many years’ experience of climbing mountains on every continent and exploring some of the world’s most uninhabitable areas. He first came to prominence when, whilst climbing Suila Grande in the Peruvian Andes with Jo Simspon, an epic rescue mission turned into near tragedy when Simon believed his friend to have died in a deep crevasse and needed to leave him on the mountainside. These exploits were made into a book and a film ‘Touching the Void’. Since then Simon has gone on to achieve , more successful journeys.

The evening will be held on Wednesday 11th April 2018, at De Vere Whites Hotel. The talk will start at 7:30 but prior to that there will be the opportunity to meet Simon in person and maybe even snap up a signed copy of one of his books of his adventures. Tickets cost £7.50 and are available by emailing gill.leigh@boltonmrt.org.uk

This was commissioned to mark them raising a fantastic £126.45 from their Bolton Mountain Rescue Team charity collection box during 2017.

We have nearly one hundred charity boxes situated in various locations throughout our operational area and are very grateful for the regular income they generate – so huge thanks to The Chetham Arms and all our other host sites and huge thanks to their customers who drop their donations into the boxes.

Our Support Group member, Aron Kirsh, who is employed as a Building Surveyor with Rider Levett Bucknall of Salford Quays, recently had a great deal of support from his colleague, Tom Giddings, with the design of a weatherproof outdoor banner highlighting the voluntary work undertaken by Bolton Mountain Rescue Team. Not only that, but the company kindly agreed to sponsor the production of the banner and also donated £41.75 from office colleagues.

We are very grateful for this generous support from Rider Levett Bucknall and their support of their employee, Aron, in his voluntary work with our Team.
