Just as we were about to begin our usual Wednesday night training session, GMAS requested the team to respond to an incident in Wigan, involving a 14 year old boy who had fallen from a rope swing. Our first vehicle was on scene 13 minutes from the initial pager call, and 35 members attended the incident in total. The young lad had sustained some possibly serious injuries, and was at the bottom of a 35 foot, 55 degree slope.
The team and paramedics placed him onto a full length spine board, and then onto a Bell mountain rescue stretcher. Using standard team methods we hauled the entire party up from the ravine. The boy was then placed into the waiting land ambulance and was taken the short journey to hospital.
