Over the 15th – 17th November, 11 Team members enjoyed a social weekend in North Wales, staying at Ogwen Valley MRT’s base at Bryn Poeth, situated at the foot of the Carnedds and Tryfan. A misty and cold Saturday, saw one group on the stiff climb up PY ’ Wen and onto the main Carneddea summits, there was even a touch of snow in the air.
Another smaller party visited Tryfan [Mark Parry’s n ’ th visit to the top], returning early to end up going on an Oggi call out [see Incident 91 below]. The excellent day was rounded off by our cook in residence, Steph Holt preparing enough food to feed a small army, let alone the 11 present!
Bright and early !!!!! on Sunday, saw a very clear but very frosty day, welcoming our Training Officer and John Carlin onto the classic rock climbs on Idwal slabs, the rest, led by our Team Leader “I remember Wales in the good winter of 78/79 … yawn !” had a classic scrambling day on Tryfan, Bristly Ridge, where we listened in on our team mates on Incident 92, such is the range of our radios, finishing with a descent of a still frosty Y Gribin ridge.
Adventures did’nt stop there, the journey home in one of our team landrovers providing excitement !!!! with a front tyre blow out, capably handled by Ken, our driver.
Thanks to all at Oggi, for once again making us most welcome at their excellent base / HQ.
