Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

24th November 2002

Today saw 26 team members provide Standby Rescue Cover for the annual Darwen Biathlon, (the fell race part, we do not have any swimming pool lifeguards !). A fine winters morning saw 47 competitors on the short course around Tockholes and Roddlesworth, race around without incident.

This is the last Standby Rescue cover event for us this year, with the team having attended 25 events this year (a record ?), ranging from M2002 Commonwealth Games events, through to Orienteering competitions, Fell races, and large scale Sponsored walks. We even provided cover for a long distance Horse rider/point to point event. (our talents are many).
All of these events have taken place within the teams operational area, and we view such events as supporting our local communities, as well as maintaining our already excellent profile with the many users of the outdoors who take part in these events.
Not listed are many other events this year, as in other years, where we have been asked for advice by event organisers, rather than an on scene presence, or else provided a point of contact for organisers should they require the team for any incident arising, rather than have us “immediatly on hand”. Again, it’s an opportunity for contact within our local community.
