The routine Sunday morning Search Dog training, undertaken by our handler Dave Marsh and his faithful companion Chi (or is that the other way around ?) had a newcomer on the moors today, as Dave was joined by Sub Officer Mike Dewar and his Disaster Search dog Echo. Mike Dewar is a GMFRS Firefighter, based at Higher Broughton Fire Station, White Watch, and is a member of GMFRS International Response team.
Echo is specifically trained to search for persons trapped in collapsed structures and rubble, but can also search open areas. (likewise our Chi has trained in buildings)
Both handlers and dogs enjoyed a fantastic winters morning on the moors around Two Lads, with clear skies and excellent views out to the Great Orme in North Wales.
Dave commented that he’d enjoyed the joint working exercise, and showing Sub Officer Mike Dewar a little of how he works Chi on a moorland / open ground search exercise. (there were the usual team members lying out on the moor for Chi and Echo to find)
It is hoped Mike can arrange a reciprocal visit, and invite Dave and Chi to a GMFRS collapsed building dog search scenerio / exercise, in the not to distant future.
