Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

13th February 2005

The team was pleased to be involved as ever with the Horwich RMI & AC organised annual Winter Hill fell race. Blue skies and chilling temperatures met the event in the early morning, being replaced mid-way through the arduous course by a sudden snow storm and dramatic drop in temperatures.

What started off as a ’fresh’ Winters morning.

127 runners set out with 9 retirements throughout the course, including one competitor who was suffering from a rapid onset of hypothermia. Apart from dealing with the transport of retirees back to the event control in team vehicles, there were no other incidents to report.

At the height of the sudden snowstorm, team members in one of our Mountain Rescue ambulances gave shelter to a family party who were not equipped for the sudden onset of wintry conditions whilst watching the event. They were transported down to their vehicle at Lower House.

In all, 31 team members took part.
