As a follow on to the Tuesday evening event (see #article#1008#link#) we were expecting 5 persons to attend today all with an interest in joining the team. Maybe it was the freezing cold weather or very wet and boggy ground conditions (part frozen), but only four actually turned up. Following a moorland navigation test, and CPR practical training, all four then took part in three mountain rescue casualty care and evacuation exercises, each one different in the steepness of terrain encountered and the length of stretcher carry back to our vehicles.
All four persons who attended by all accounts enjoyed the day, despite discovering just how wet our local moorlands can be – even when frozen!
Following an interview with our Training Officer, Fred Taylor, all four have been invited to attend our regular Wednesday night training session, for the next 6 weeks, following which they will be interviewed again regarding their suitability for team trainee team membership.
