Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

25th November 2007

Meeting to depart our Ladybridge Hall Base / HQ at 09.30hrs this morning, 19 team members provided on scene standby rescue cover for the 5.1 mile long David Staff Memorial Fell Race that took place this morning starting at 11.30hrs, organised by the Darwen Dashers Running Club.

All four team vehicles were deployed around the course, which took in a circuit of Darwen Tower, including venturing onto Darwen Moor, (and the very short and notoriously steep ’Aggies Staircase’ section above Stepback Brook) starting and finishing in Sunnyhurst Woods, Darwen.

With 1200’ of ascent, 95 runners took part in very wet ground conditions, low temperatures and low cloud, with team members providing Start / finish liaison, ’spot pick up’ crews and hill top checkpoints alongside race marshalls.

Thankfully the event, which had all profits and donations going to ’Cardiac Risk in the Young’ passed without incident. (In addition to our 19 team members on scene around and on the course, another three members were on immediate standby to help if needed at our Ladybridge Hall Base/HQ)
