Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2008

Its very fitting to note two more honours to Mountain Rescue members.

Firstly congratulations to Alfie Ingram for his MBE, for voluntary services to Mountain Rescue in Scotland. Alfie is Team Leader of Tayside MRT, Chair of the Mountain Rescue Committe of Scotland and also a very friendly and knowledgable ’young’ man.

Secondly, Nicki Lyons for her MBE, for voluntary services to the Search & Rescue Dog Association – England & Mountain Rescue England.
Nicki has been a call out member of Tavistock Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team since May 1982. She graded her first dog Dart Feb 1988 and was one of the forty-five handlers who attended the Lockerbie Air Disaster in December that year. Nicki has responded to over 600 incidents to date, and with her dogs have so far been responsible for locating over 25 people alive and 5 deceased including 2 murder victims. She has served on the as SARDA committee for over ten years as members rep, training officer, secretary and latterly Chairman, standing down in 2005 to concentrate on training her third dog Cavos who qualified in October 2006.

So that’s three Mountain Rescue team members who have been honoured this year, not forgeting our own Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE.

From all of us at Bolton MRT to Alfie, Nicki & Garry, congratulations on your awards. What a wonderful way to recognise the hard work these individuals have put in to Mountain Rescue, especially as 2008 is Mountain Rescues 75th Anniversary.
