Incident 80/2008
At 18.48hrs we were paged by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service regarding the report of ” two people protesting, hanging off the roof of Peel House, Eccles.”
This call out occured under the ’Pre Determined Response’ agreement GMFRS has with MRTs in Greater Manchester for incidents of this nature -structures rescue / vertical line rescue.
Peel House is a prominent multi storey office block in the town centre of Eccles.
This call out prompted the usual speedy and responsive turn out by the team, with our first two members arriving on scene as the Fire Service established it was all a false alarm.
The 999 callers had misinterpreted the actions of two window cleaners high up the building for ’protesters in distress’ and had quite rightly contacted the emergency services.
At 19.11hrs a full stand down message was paged to responding team members.
The following resources were despatched to this incident; numerous GMP vehicles and Police Officers, 22x Bolton MRT team members including our Team Leader and Deputy Leader, three Mountain Rescue Ambulance Land Rovers, Pump Appliances from Eccles (2x) and Stretford Fire Stations, a Hydraulic Platform from Stretford Fire Station, the Pinzgauer specialist 6×6 appliance from Bolton North Fire Station and two Fire Officers.
