Incident 36/2009
Whilst the Team was engaged in the previous incident, NWAS (GMA) contacted the Team Base at 21:29 Hrs via ERC radio channel, to enquire about assistance at an road traffic collision on the M61 motorway.
A vehicle had left the carriageway and crashed through a fence and down an embankment, assistance was required to get the casualty up the embankment into the NWAS vehicle.
At 21:44 Hrs our Deputy Team Leader, Geoff Seddon & Training Officer, Andy Ryding, made a response from Base, followed by our Team Leader & 2 x BMRT members & Team vehicle BM3 from the other incident.
By 21:52 Hrs the first two members had arrived on scene and helped the responding NWAS vehicle crews with packaging the casualty on to a longboard within a quick rescue stretcher up the embankment into the Ambulance.
Involved in this incident were, 8 Team members, 1 Team vehicle, 1 NWAS HART response vehicle, 1 NWAS Emergency response ambulance, various GMP assets & also the Highways Agency.
This incident illustrates how the team can work in a multi-agency response environment, all coming together for the benefit of the casualty.
As for our training that was due to take place tonight, the initial call to the previous incident, most team members thought that it was a devious setup by our Training Officer Andrew Ryding, but obviously it was the real thing!
