Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

This evening our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE was honoured to be invited to this years NWAS Staff Awards Ceremony 2010, held at the Premier Suite, De Veres Whites Hotel, De Havilland Way, Bolton.

This years ceremony represented the first time a combined staff awards ceremony had been held together for all the constituent parts of NWAS, i.e. Cheshire and Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cumbria, so Ambulance staff attending came from Crewe to Carlisle and Macclesfield to Liverpool!

The evening opened with a drinks reception, followed by a very funny and entertaining welcoming address by TV Comedian Jason Manford.

Mary Whyham, Chairman NWAS then made the Opening address, followed by Warren Smith, the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester remarks.

Staff Award presentations were made by the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester with regards to Queen’s Long Service and Good Conduct Medal presentations.

Mary Whyham, Chairman NWAS and Darren Hurrell, Chief Executive NWAS, then presented the Long Service and Outstanding Achievement Awards, the Peer Nominated Awards and the Special Commendations.

There followed the Student Learners of the Year Award, Memorial Awards, Chairman’s Special Award for the Cumbria Floods and the Chairman’s and Chief Executive’s Award.

Throughout all the presentations, Jason Manford introduced all the catagories and individually named all the recipients.

The Awards Ceremony ended with concluding remarks by Darren Hurrell, Chief Executive , NWAS., following which was an excellent buffet dinner.

Our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE was present alongside Andy Simpson, Team Leader of Rossendale & Pendle MRT, Mick Nield, Team Leader of Oldham MRT and Simeon Leech of Duddon and Furness MRT who is also Secretary of LDSAMRA. (Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association – the regional body representing Mountain and Mine Rescue in Cumbria).

Garry, Andy, Mick and Simeon all attended to receive Special Commendation Certificates from NWAS for their respective teams ’Partnership Working with NWAS.’ (Presented by Darren Hurrell, Chief Executive NWAS and Mary Whyham, Chairman NWAS) In Simeons’ case he also received Certificates on behalf of Penrith MRT and Langdale Ambleside MRT.


All four were guests at the table of Derek Cartwright, Director of Emergency Operations NWAS.

The Special Commendation Certificate awarded to Bolton Mountain Rescue Team for Partnership Working with NWAS, dated 2010, will now take pride of place on our ’Awards’ wall at our Ladybridge Hall, Bolton Base / HQ.
