Donation from Lostock Athletics Club
This evening our Chairman, Ken Oakes, Team members Brian Brooks, Judith Waltho and trainee Team members, Martin Banks and Nick Berry attended the Horwich Leisure Centre to meet John Smith, Chair Lostock Athletics Club, and a group of the club members to be presented with a very generous donation of £120 for our standby rescue cover assistance in support of the “Hendersons End Fell Race” an annual event staged by the club. Also present were representatives from a local Scout Group who also received a donation for their assistance in the provision of race marshalls.
On behalf of the Team Ken expressed his gratitude for the kind donation and John responded by stating that without our assistance and that of the Scouts the event could not take place.
The club members then set off on their usual Wednesday evening training run on what turned out to be a pleasant summer evening, BMRT wishes the club all the best for the future. Our Team members did not join them as we were then undergoing some search and rescue training below Rivington as part of our usual Wednesday evening training programme; this included a search for small objects with trainee search dog ‘Boris’ and his handler Steve Nelson leading the way, this was followed by a gruesome’ incident,’ that could have been scripted by the writers of “Midsomer Murders,” near to the Lower House car park when exercise organisers Ged Clarke and Paul Brain presented us with a scenario that was a test of our stomachs and casualty care skills.
