Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

8th March 2011

On the evening of Tuesday 8th March our Chairman Ken Oakes, Team member, Martin Banks and trainee, Scott Beresford were pleased to welcome a party of scouts and cubs from the 1st Turton and accompanying leaders and parents, to our Ladybridge Hall Base, the group were split into two parties, who swapped over at half time, with Martin presenting a lecture about Mountain Rescue and Scott presenting a demonstration of the equipment we carry in our vehicles, including our comprehensive trauma bags and of course the inevitable carrying of each other on one of our Bell stretchers with not always the smoothest of rides for the ‘casualty’ but a hopefully a good time was had by all with everyone seeming to want to play the casualty, and be strapped on the stretcher, luckily no one seemed to suffer from motion sickness!

One of the scouts was Luke Ponton who we rescued following a sledging accident last December. Also present was Luke’s father, who is the Greater Manchester Police Divisional Emergency Planning Officer, who spent some time in discussion with Ken about the resources the Team can provide at certain GMP incidents.

At the end of our presentation the group held a collection and we were very pleased to receive the superb donation of £40.06 which will be put to very good use towards the funding of the high cost of maintaining a team such as ours.
