Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

7th May 2011

Today the team provided full standby rescue cover for the ever popular annual Belmont Fell Races, all of which take place on and around Winter Hill, Belmont. Commencing at 12.30hrs, 12x young fell runners took part in the mass start for the Under 12’s, Under 14’s and Under 16’s races, from Belmont Village up on to the flanks of Winter Hill and back down again. The Senior event took place at 13.15hrs, attracting 120 runners, over a 4.5 mile course.

Weather conditions on the day were quite poor; with plenty of rain and the tops of the hills shrouded in cloud, along with lots of wind. Temperatures were hovering around the 10 degree C mark

In total 29x team members attended, including all five of our Mountain Rescue Land Rover Ambulances, our Minibus and our Control Trailer.

The team dealt with a small number of minor injuries to competitors, and also one stretcher evacuation of a 16 year old competitor with an ankle injury (refer to incident report 37/2011)

The team welcomes the opportunity to support the Belmont Fell Races and will be present for the 2012 events.
