Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

15th May 2011

Every year the team supports the Horwich New Heart Rivington Pike event which is a sponsored walk to raise funds for the Wythenshawe Hospital Transplant Fund.

Walkers take a route which starts at Rivington Hall Barn, through the Terraced Gardens to the summit of Rivington Pike and back down to Rivington Hall Barn. The team provides standby rescue cover for this event which traditionally has involved some walkers who have had heart surgery or suffered cardiac problems, in some years the event also attracts cardiac doctors and surgeons.

This year we had our five Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulance team vehicles in attendance, with twenty team members on hand to cover the event including many small parties of team members who throughout the afternoon of this event walked alongside the sponsored participants.

In total, over fifty walkers took part in today’s sponsored walk which passed without incident, with the low numbers taking part directly related to the very poor weather conditions of persistent drizzle, wet conditions underfoot, very low cloud obscuring the tops and a cold wind blowing.

At the conclusion of this years walk, Roger Bunyan, Chair of Horwich New Heart Club, kindly presented the team with a donation of £75.00 as a thank you for our provision of standby rescue cover for the event.
