Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

25th May 2011

On Thursday 7th April this year, the team was involved in the tragic recovery of the body of a local hill walker who sadly died whilst out solo walking in the company of his dog, on Darwen Moor in the vicinity of Duckshaw Clough.

This incident also involved our colleagues from the North West Air Ambulance, North West Ambulance Service (Lancashire) and Lancashire Constabulary.
Today we have received a number of donations made in the memory of this very experienced hill walker who sadly died, the late Mr David Paul Wiggans (Dave Wiggy) of Blackburn.

David Wiggans aged 50, who was a Dial-a-Ride driver, was a very experienced hill walker, who loved both the Lake District and the local Darwen Moors, often out walking with his partner Linda Sears, his best friend Dave Atkinson or his son John Wiggans, and the beloved dog of David and Linda, Zak (Who was with him when he collapsed and died)

The funeral of the late David Wiggans took place at Pleasington Crematorium on Friday, April 15th, and it was desired that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to either Bolton Mountain Rescue Team or the North West Air Ambulance.

A very large number of individual donations were subsequently received in memory of the late David Wiggans, with the team benefitting from such kindness to the total of £514.00. A similar amount totaling £520.00 was also kindly donated to the North West Air Ambulance.

The sincere condolences of the entire team membership are expressed to the partner of the late David Wiggans, Miss Linda Sears, his children John and Louise and her partner Danny, his grandchildren Katie and Macy, his sister Margaret, his brothers Michael, Kenneth and John, his parents Clifford and Eunice, best friend Dave Atkinson, other friends and work colleagues at Darwen and Blackburn Transport Services Limited.
