Team to take part in Greater Manchester Emergency Services Open Day at The Trafford Centre, Manchester
From an initial idea by GMFRS Stretford Fire Station Commander Ben Levy, which has just grown and grown over the last few weeks, the reality of a Greater Manchester Emergency Services Open Day at the major shopping complex of the Trafford Centre, Manchester, has now become a reality.
Thanks to the kind permission and full support of the Trafford Centre, Manchester, on Wednesday 10th August 2011, between 10.00am and 5.00pm, all the Emergency Services operating in Greater Manchester will be coming together in a major outdoor exhibition to showcase their vehicles, equipment, role and operational work load in the Greater Manchester area.
With considerable support from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service by way of publicising this major event, we can now announce our involvement and that of some of the other services currently known to be attending.
There will be an action packed programme with something for all ages and interests, including Emergency Vehicle displays, Live displays including Road Traffic Collision demonstrations, the impressive (It has to be seen!) GMFRS Kitchen Fire Unit, Road Safety sessions, Home Security and Fire Safety Advice and displays by GMFRS Cadets.
A wide variety of operational GMFRS Fire Appliances and Specialist Appliances will be on show, including vehicles from the GMFRS Fire Service Museum collection.
Greater Manchester Police will also be displaying their wide variety of vehicles and specialist police sections and roles.
The North West Ambulance Service will be attending alongside the North West Air Ambulance Helicopter Charity.
The British Red Cross Fire Emergency Support Service (FESS) vehicle will be present, displaying its important work to those directly affected by the aftermath of serious incidents and fires.
The RSPCA will be be attending to show its emergency work rescuing animals in distress, including its Flood Response work and Rope Rescue Capabilities.
A ’Mountain Rescue Zone’ will have vehicles and displays from the Bolton MRT, Rossendale and Pendle MRT and Oldham MRT, including the very latest 2011 specification Emergency Response Land Rover Defender and Discovery series Ambulances, Control and Communications vehicles, SAR Water Unit Boat, Search and Rescue Equipment displays and a wide range of charity fund raising mountain rescue related merchandise available to purchase.
This event will also present an opportunity for members of the public to meet face to face with the operational and support members of all the Emergency Services who operate daily within the Greater Manchester community, come along and hear their experiences, and more so, learn about their wide ranging work varying from safety visits and advice to actually dealing with emergency incidents, and its all completely free!
