Community Safety Day / 999 Emergency Services Day, Darwen Town Centre

Today’s Community Safety Day / 999 Emergency Services Day held in Darwen Town Centre started with a downpour that continued throughout the morning. Fortunately, as the clock struck twelve the skies started to brighten and the residents and visitors to Darwen’s Market were treated to demonstrations and exhibitions by Bolton Mountain Rescue Team and other colleague Emergency Services.

A very wet day in Darwen

Organised this year as in previous years by Darwen based, Lancashire Constabulary Police Community Support Officer Nick Gisicz, a valued friend and supporter of the Bolton MRT, this year’s event included participation from a great many organisations that work within Darwen and the surrounding area, including:

  • North West Ambulance Service (Lancashire) with an Emergency Ambulance and crew attending from Darwen Ambulance Station.
  • Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, with Darwen Fire Station being represented by their Pump Appliance and the LFRS as a whole being represented by a Mobile Fire Station / Incident Control and Command Vehicle.
  • Lancashire Constabulary Police Officers, vehicles and Darwen based PCSOs, who provided public safety and other related advice.
  • The team attended with:
    • all four of our Land Rover Defender Mountain Rescue Ambulances
    • our Minibus
    • Search and Rescue Boat

The Mayor of Darwen, Councillor Karimeh Foster and Councillor David Foster, Mayor’s Consort, visited the teams display expressing sincere gratitude to the team for the services offered to the Blackburn with Darwen community.

Ten Team Call Out list members attended today alongside four members of our Support Group, (Iain Clarkson, Andy Keyworth and for part of the day, Howard and Teresa Gilliland)

Our ever successful second hand book stall was again in operation, raising £90.00 for team funds.

Combined with public donations collected today totaling a very generous £88.00, overall we are very happy to report donations at today’s event totaled £178.00, which shows the fantastic public support held in the team by the good people of Darwen and the surrounding community.

The team is next in Darwen, Lancashire, for the Saturday 20th August 2011 Annual Darwen Gala and Jubilee Tower Fell Race, why not make it a date to come along and visit the team.
