Team receives further substantial bequest amount from the estate of the late Ian Casson

On Wednesday 28th November 2012, our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE was notified by Gilbert Stephens Solicitors of Ottery St Mary, Devon, that we had been left the residue of the estate of the late Ian Casson.
We understand that Mr Ian Casson was born in Blackburn, going on to become a long term resident of Devon, up to his death on 12th November 2012.

On Thursday 28th November 2013, our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE  received from Gilbert Stephens Solicitors details of the provisional Estate Account of the late Ian Casson, and a substantial bequest of £20,000.00 to Bolton Mountain Rescue Team, representing the bulk of the funds due to the team.

Today we can report that we have received from Gilbert Stephens Solicitors of Ottery St Mary, Devon, a copy of the final Estate Accounts for the late Mr Ian Casson, and a substantial further bequest of £5,930.84p.

This brings the total bequest made to us by the late Ian Casson to a staggering £25,930.84p, with the Bolton MRT being the sole beneficiary of Ian Casson’s kindness, other than his wish that items relating to his walking activities be distributed amongst his friends.

The entire Bolton MRT membership extends its gratitude to the very kind extremely supportive thoughtful support of the late Mr Ian Casson.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to Miss Elizabeth Govier of Gilbert Stephens Solicitors of Ottery St Mary, Devon, for her administration of the estate of Ian Casson, and for her help and assistance to the Bolton MRT in this respect and in her dealings with our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE.

Mr Ian Casson’s memory and wonderful support of the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team will be acknowledged by a Dedication Plaque to his ever lasting memory being erected in our Ladybridge Hall Base / HQ.

Other than details as to his last residence and where he was born, the Bolton MRT has no other information regarding Mr Casson and his connection to us.

On Thursday 5th December 2013, we appealed via our website to anyone who may help us find out a little more about the late Ian Casson, given his kindness to us.

We understand that Mr Ian Casson was born in Blackburn, going on to become a long term resident of Devon, up to his death on 12th November 2012.

Other than these few details the Bolton MRT has no other information regarding Mr Casson, and as a result we are obviously keen to try and find out some background to this very kind man, who has proved so supportive of us.

Despite making this appeal, which was also placed in the ‘Bolton News,’ newspaper, we have had no further leads or information about this kindly man, and so we are once more repeating our appeal to enable us to hopefully find out a little more as to the late Ian Casson, which will further allow us to maintain his memory.
