Incident 98/2014 – Missing person search in the Colwyn Bay area of North Wales
A missing 48 years old woman, the subject of a South Yorkshire Police missing person enquiry, was believed to be in the North Wales area when Detectives searching for the missing woman from Sheffield confirmed that her car had been found in the Colywn Bay area of North Wales.
At around 21.30hrs last night, Saturday 13th December, officers from North Wales Police found the woman’s silver VW Beetle in the Colwyn Bay area.
She had last been seen leaving her place of work in Woodseats, Sheffield, at around 14.00hrs on Monday 8 December. She was due home from work at 18.00hrs but did not return.
Officers from South Yorkshire Police worked closely with North Wales Police, who were making extensive enquiries in Wales to try and locate the missing woman.
Her car, found in the Old Highway area of Colwyn Bay, now gave a new focus for the search to locate her.
NEWSART was contacted by North Wales Police and SARDA Wales at 22.59hrs yesterday to assist in the search.
A NEWSART Search Manager attended North Wales Police HQ overnight to plan for searches to be carried out today, Sunday 14th December, and NEWSART was subsequently called out at 07:00hrs.
Joining the 15x NEWSAR team members who attended, was our Mountain Rescue Trailing Search Dog Handler Steve Nelson, Boris his Search Dog and colleague Bolton MRT team member Elaine Gilliland, Steve’s usual navigator.
Steve, Boris and Elaine, had co-incidentally been in the North Wales area at the time, for a SARDA Wales (of which they are both members) training weekend, and so made a relatively quick journey to Colwyn Bay.
Steve, Elaine and Boris departed at the early hour of 06.00hrs this morning to travel to the search RVP, arriving at 08.00hrs.
They completed their search tasking’s, and following the necessary on scene debriefings, left at 14.00hrs to return home for 16.00hrs.
Other SARDA Wales Search Dog assets were also deployed alongside North wales Police resources.
North Wales Police and South Yorkshire Police enquiries continue to try to locate this missing woman.
Further details on this incident may be found on the NEWSAR website, or from the North Wales Police website.
