Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

13th May 2011

The below is an account of the evening by Team Call Out list member Diane Blakeley;

This evening the BSF Ladies Rounders League held a quiz at Bolton Cricket Club, Green Lane, Bolton. Rounders teams were invited to enter teams with a maximum of 6 players per team. We entered two teams of five. “Bolton MRT A Team” included Team Training Officer Elaine Gilliland, Team Member Ana Toole, Support Group Members Howard and Teresa Gilliland and Ana’s brother Sean. The second team who chose the name of “The Duffers” consisted of Team Members Gill Leigh, Diane Blakeley, David Cook and Paul Copley, and Paul’s wife Louise.

The quiz involved a number of rounds including pictures of famous people (How did Paul recognise Matt Damon in drag?), pictures of the local area and various puzzles to solve before the main quiz started, which included a pop music round as well as a general knowledge quiz. The quiz was hosted by the Rounders League Vice Chairman and Party Perfections Team Member Angie Hill. As a member of Edgworth Rounders Club I am only to aware of Angie’s very entertaining and amusing style which certainly helped to make the evening an enjoyable occasion for everyone present. As well as the quiz, there was also a game of stand up bingo and a big raffle both to raise money for the team.

Who ate all the pies?!

During the interval, whilst the teams enjoyed pasties and peas, they were entertained by Charlie a Rounders player who performs as a Lady GaGa Tribute Act (http://www.charlieisladygaga.co.uk) For this evening Charlie entertained us with a range of songs from the 60’s right up to the present date. It was a great performance with all of us present highly impressed. Charlie donated her services for the evening so a big big thank you to her.

There was some rivalry between our two teams as you can imagine. David was extremely nervous about the result taking it very seriously; he does not get that nervous when dealing with a casualty. So you can imagine when “Bolton MRT A Team” got 76 points and “The Duffers” got 76.5 points this caused quite some controversy between the two teams. The Duffers won the quiz and were presented with a large hamper of goodies. Whilst “Bolton MRT A Team” had to complete a tie breaker with two other teams for second place. The question being a football one was perfect for Ana’s brother Sean, so Bolton MRT finished first and second walking away rather embarrassed with two hampers. I did a thank you speech on behalf of the team thanking the members not only for their support this evening but also for all the other events that have raised money for the team so far this year.

Before we left the event we were given a tray of pasties for the team to eat on the safety cover the next day.

A big thank you to all those who attended and helped to organise the event especially Angie Hill and Melanie Adamson. Special thanks to Charlie for entertaining us with her fantastic singing. Thanks to all the Rounders players who donated raffle prizes and to everyone there who made is all feel so welcome which helped us to have a fun evening and thanks also to Bolton Cricket Club.
