This evening, the team provided standby rescue cover (partly of a specialist nature) for the “Light Fantastic” evening public event culminating in a light show & firework display at Moses Gate Country Park, Farnworth, Bolton.
The team was on hand to provide first aid cover and general standby rescue cover within the country park and also provided specialist waterside cover and a rescue capability given the country park has a large number of large standing water bodies and a fast flowing river within the park confines.
In total 22 team members were present with 5 team members, constituting our water rescue unit (equipped with drysuits, kayaks and canoes).
On the evening our members worked in close liaison with Greater Manchester Police Divisional Police Officers including Special Constables, members of the Bolton Countryside Ranger Service, Bolton MBC staff and a specialist event marshalling team that covered the event.
No calls were made on the services of the team aside from the team dealing with a missing 9 year old child who was quickly reunited with his family. Organisers estimated that over 2000 people attended this evening event.
Although the team was situated in a secure area away from the main focus of the event a considerable number of members of the public visited us (even though it was dark) to have a look at the Hummer H3 Mountain Rescue Vehicle we currently have in team use).
