Equipment

Vehicles and trailers

The team operates a comprehensively equipped fleet of emergency vehicles and trailers to enable it to respond to the wide range of incidents (and areas) that the team is called out to.

“First Response” vehicles – Defender 110 “County”. Four in service, BM1 “Tony McNally II”, BM2 “The Mark Mason”, BM3 “Miss Ellen Sykes ‘Nelle'”, and BM4, all able to carry five personnel or a mountain stretcher with casualty, an attendant and driver. Each carries a wide range of search, rescue and casualty care equipment, including oxygen resuscitation and pulse monitoring equipment, Entonox® gas, search lighting, crag and line rescue kit, two different types of stretchers, casualty shelter tents, comprehensive first aid kits and spinal management splints.

The team’s fifth operational vehicle is BM5, our Ford Transit 12x seater Minibus, which is primarily a personnel carrier, but carries an appropriate small amount of search and rescue equipment.

In June 2013 the team purchased our Control vehicle, a Volkswagen Crafter CR35 LWB  – fitted out to enable command, control and communications of a search and rescue incident, it is equipped with mountain rescue and ambulance radio equipment, computers & monitor including local area digital mapping in a variety of formats, printing, scanning, laminating and photocopying facilities, a extendible radio mast and full interior & exterior lighting.

Mobile catering unit – A fully fitted out kitchen trailer, with power and lighting. Beverages and quick-to-prepare ready meals are in stock to feed the full forty strong team for 24 hours away from any support facilities.

The team also operates a 3.5 metre semi rigid search and rescue boat complete with outboard engine, and its own boat trailer, which also contains a basket stretcher.

Aireshelta air inflated shelter tent – 2.4 x 3.6 metres – this versatile fully weatherproof shelter tent is utilised by the team as a briefing facility, messing facility, and debriefing facility. It also has a role in any major incident response where the team may need in-the-field shelter for an extended period of operations.

Our trio of Control vehicle, Catering trailer, and Aireshelta, complete with its own portable generator unit means the team can operate as a complete self-contained unit for at least 24 hours in a field situation without external support.

All our vehicles and trailers have been purchased entirely by the team’s own fund raising efforts, along with grants and donations (With particular thanks to the East Lancashire Mark Benevolent Fund, Greater Manchester Police, Miss Ellen Sykes and the M2002 Commonwealth Games).
