At 13:49 today we attended an incident in Rivington – a downhill mountain biker had come off his bike on the Georges Lane track (running down from the Pigeon Tower) at Rivington. He sustained himself a fractured leg (And amazingly didn’t mind when the paramedics were cutting up his body armour!) Our first member was on scene within 10 minutes, followed by Lancashire Ambulance Service. The casualty was airlifted from the scene by Helimed 08 (NWAA Helicopter) to the Royal Preston Hospital – after exhausting 1 vehicles supply of Entonox® analgesic gas! This article appeared in the Bolton Evening News the following day, covering the story.

Whilst attempting to tag a bear in Canada (see October’s update), John Carlin slipped and broke his ankle! After crawling back to his cabin he suffered the embarrassment of having to call out a Canadian Mountain Rescue Team – and was fortunate enough to be evacuated by helicopter. Get well soon, John!
On Sunday, November 11th we again attended the Remembrance Sunday memorial service at the Lead Mines Clough memorial. 15 team members were present at the ceremony (Complimenting 95 persons in total). The memorial was erected in 1955 by the Rotary Club of Horwich to the memory of the 5 RAAF pilots who lost their lives 1943 when a Wellington bomber crashed on the same moor.
At an SGM this evening, Jonathan Holt was elected as Equipment Officer (Stretchers and Ropes), replacing John Carlin who had to leave us to go to Canada last month…..
We received a £1194.13 donation this month; however the benefactors have requested no publicity in relation to their identity. We thank them profusely for their thoughtfulness.
Our thoughts and condolences are with the Royal Family following the sad news of the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Many of our members were inspired to enjoy the outdoors through the DofE Award. The picture shows members meeting the Duke in 1979. pic.twitter.com/SSTC30CcPB
At 4.56pm yesterday we were requested by NWAS to assist with a 22yo male who had fallen at Tiger’s Clough. The team treated him with pain relief & placed a vacuum splint around the injured ankle, then stretchered him to the waiting ambulance. We wish him a speedy recovery. pic.twitter.com/ZEbrt4vaLT
1/2 From all of us at BMRT we would just like to thank every one of you that donated to us this weekend. It was a hard decision for us not to do our usual Easter meet and great around Rivington but for the safety of our team members, we decided against it. pic.twitter.com/xkNOo8equX
1/ Today is usually a busy and important day for the team. With so many people visiting the Rivington area in particular, we would usually have our displays set up around the area to help educate people about outdoor safety. pic.twitter.com/0iKNZaqWU1

❓ Did you know that moorland and wildfires can be started in a number of ways?
Sadly, many are started deliberately, however, some can break out by people being careless with barbecues, campfires or not disposing of cigarettes properly 🔥 pic.twitter.com/WDHdEHFcXA
