Incident 39/2013
At circa 11:10 Phil O’Brien, the Team Leader of Bowland Pennine MRT, contacted our Deputy Team Leader Geoff Seddon to request the team’s assistance with the second day of a mountain rescue search operation in a search for a missing person in the Burscough area.
Karen Simpson hed been reported missing from her home in Burscough on Sunday 24th February. Lancashire Constabulary called on the services of our neighbouring team Bowland Pennine MRT to assist in the search.
With the search continuing into a third day, and with further search areas identified, Bolton Mountain Rescue team joined the ongoing search.
At aroung 18:00 all allocated search areas had been concluded, and with the fading light the mountain rescue teams along with Lancashire Constabulary Officers were stood down.
Lancashire Constabulary enquiries are continuing.

- Bolton MRT – 9 members
- SARDA (Wales) Trailing Search Dog Boris and handler steve Nelson (Bolton MRT)
- Lancashire Constabulary local officers

Incident 40/2013
In a continuation of our incident 38 and 39/2013, the team once again journeyed to Burscough to resume our search for Karen Simpson.
Bolton MRT and Bowland Pennine MRT team members commenced searching shortly after their arrival.
At around 10:30 this morning the team learned the sad news that a body had been found in a field on the outskirts of Burscough. This was later confirmed to be the body of Karen Simpson.
Both Bolton MRT and Bowland Pennine MRT would like to pass on their condolences to the family and friends of Karen Simpson.
In total, seven Bolton MRT members assisted in this search operation.
