Incident

Today, we dealt with 2 incidents in quick succession:

Firstly, one of our vehicles chanced upon an RTA whereby a motorcycle pillion passenger had fallen from her carriage. She displaced her tib/fib and patella, and there was cause for concern regarding a possible lower spine injury.

GMAS requested our assistance at an incident at High Rid reservoir, Lostock – they had received a 999 call detailing a male who had been in the water (the air temperature was 5 deg. C), and was now on the bank. We were stood down whilst responding as the paramedic unit no longer required assistance.

At 23:14 Lancashire Ambulance Service requested our assistance with a medical emergency at a farm in Edgworth. The track to the farm was covered in sheet ice and the crew knew that without 4WD they would be unable to depart – weather conditions were freezing. One of our landrovers was used to transport the seriously ill casualty to A&E whilst another was used to tow out the stuck land ambulance. Team members finally got some sleep at about 3AM!

The second call of the day was to assist with the recovery of a man’s body from Hindsford Brook, Atherton. The police have said there were no suspicious circumstances.

The first “non-ambulance assist” call of the year was to a male rambler who slipped in the snow – and banged his head on stone steps near in the Rivington area. We were called to the scene along with the air ambulance and were required to marshal a landing site in the busy public area of Great House Barn, where the casualty was transferred to a waiting land ambulance (Read the BEN article on this incident here).
