77th Bolton St Andrew’s Brownies were recently entertained by our stalwart friends and supporters, Neil & Helen Grundy (The Holcombe Duo) of Tottington, who played music on their alphorns in honour of the Brownies’ Thinking Day, 22nd February.
Lindsey Doyle, Leader-in-Charge of 77th Brownies, explained that Guiding has close links with Switzerland due to the first World Centre being opened there, so they felt that alphorns would be the most appropriate way to mark Thinking Day.
Neil & Helen would not accept any payment for their playing, but asked the Brownie Pack to make a donation to Bolton Mountain Rescue Team – and we are delighted to have received a donation of £30 from St Andrew’s Brownies.
We wish to thank 77th Bolton St Andrew’s Brownies for their kind donation and Neil & Helen Grundy for their generosity in nominating us.

We have received a generous donation of £50 from Mrs L Large on behalf of a group called Leigh Angel & Silently Sitting Group. In her accompanying letter, Mrs Large explained that they are a small group who believe in angels and throughout the year they save their loose change. At the end of each year they donate the total saved to various organisations which they believe are ‘Angels in Action’ doing magnificent work in society.
This year they chose Bolton Mountain Rescue Team for their donation, and we are very grateful for their interest in and support of our search and rescue work.
As we enter further easing of restrictions this weekend the @NWAmbulance have enhanced their plans to ensure we can respond to the increase in demand we will face. Please be careful, and remember we are still dealing with COVID-19. #SaveLives
How many other countries have unarmed officers running towards knife wielding killers. British Police really are quite remarkable when you stop to think about that.
We're calling for people to stop using disposable barbecues in Lancashire's countryside to reduce the amount of harm caused by wildfires bit.ly/3cEH9nj @Lancs_FireDCFO @LancsResilience #LeaveTheBBQAtHome pic.twitter.com/nV3raIwHpS
Firefighting has concluded at Longridge Fell & we are damping down at Darwen Moor. The major incident has been stood down. Thank you to all our partners who supported the response to these wildfires 🙏 pic.twitter.com/Datk30e0oI
Once again we’re working with lots of partners using the helicopter, tractors and staff on the ground to tackle the fire. pic.twitter.com/fnzBskqGky
We are currently assisting in a large scale multiagency response to the wildfire on Turton Moor/Darwen Moor. Please stay away and don't use these moors for recreation - there are a large number of firefighting vehicles moving around @LancashireFRS @manchesterfire pic.twitter.com/yVZhrUuDUy
